It's a must for me, the more so that there are good, free alternatives.I'm an old-time user of an old version of ACDSee and I recently wanted to migrate to something free, more modern, slicker after trying a lot of applications I found XnView and I literally fell in love with it. It's probably impossible to have a monitor which is 100% sRGB (not less, not more), even though monitor manufacturers advertise some of them as such. SRGB photos are obviously oversaturated in FastStone on wide-gamut monitors, but likewise you'll see undersaturation on cheap monitors whose gamut is smaller than sRGB. It's all because of speed-related issues (which are negligible on half-decent PCs). FastStone employs bad colour-management instead of sticking to the standard way of doing things. The problem is there, irrespective of whether you see the differences or don't. People who do use wide gamut monitors could/should look somewhere else. The caveat is that if you enter the slideshow mode it loses the monitor support (weird, I know), and also if your NEC profile is of the LUT type, it'll not work correctly.Īfaik,the poblem only occurs if the user is using a monitor with a gamut greater then sRGB! People using sRGB won't have any problems at all. Alternatively you could activate the hidden Windows Photo Viewer on your Win10 - unlike the Win default Photos app, it respects both the embedded ICC profiles and the monitor profile. IrfanView can be colour-managed in the 32-bit version of the app but you need to install the plug-in pack and turn it on in the settings.

You need to pay attention when installing software (always go to the custom installation options - I'm sure you should be able to avoid such bonuses if you downloaded IrfanView from the main site). Yesterday I downloaded Irfanview, same time came Avast antivirus program that was in size 960mb, so I had to clean my harddrive, now I am searching good picture viewer. If I were you, I'd use XnView MP and turn on colour management in the settings (it's not on by default, I think). The gamut of your monitor probably exceeds sRGB, that's why you see the oversaturation issue in FastStone. Now I see big trouble, when I look at TIFF or jpeg pictures, they are over saturated, mostly red/orange color. My experiences of faststone has been mostly good. The added benefit of XnView MP is that I can use the same viewer on Windows and on Linux. I also have the free XnView MP installed (it uses the Little CMS module which is slightly different from Adobe's). My viewer for raw files is FastRawViewer (unfortunately it doesn't support tiff files).
